Lewis Goldfrank, MD

 

Lewis Goldfrank, MD, professor of emergency medicine and chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine, has been named the Herbert W. Adams Professor of Emergency Medicine. He is the first to hold this new position, recently established with a generous gift from the estate of Elliot T. Adams, whose father, Herbert, earned his MD from NYU School of Medicine in 1884. Dr. Goldfrank is director of emergency medicine at Bellevue Hospital and NYU Langone Medical Center, marking his 30th year of service to both institutions. A world-renowned toxicologist, he is the editor of the standard textbook in the field, Goldfrank’s Toxicologic Emergencies, and serves as medical director of New York City’s Poison Control Center. A member of the Institute of Medicine, Dr. Goldfrank is the recipient of New York University’s Distinguished Teaching Medal.

 

Laura Hogan, MD

Laura Hogan, MD, a fellow at NYU Langone Medical Center’s Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, has been awarded two grants totaling more than $180,000 from the American Society of Hematology and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to help support her research over the next two years. Dr. Hogan is mentored by William Carroll, MD, the Julie and Edward J. Minskoff Professor of Pediatrics, professor of pathology, and director of NYU Langone Medical Center’s Cancer Institute.

Peter Kilbridge, MD

 

Peter Kilbridge, MD, has been appointed chief medical information officer. In this role, he will guide the development of an integrated clinical information system that enables the optimal delivery of patient care, while also supporting research and education. Dr. Kilbridge was most recently at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in Missouri, where he was medical director of information technology and the physician leader of the hospital’s inpatient electronic medical records initiative. A recipient of the Physician Scientist Award from the National Institutes of Health, he has received over $2 million in grants from the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to devise systems that help prevent adverse medical events. Dr. Kilbridge earned his MD from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and completed both a residency in general pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Boston’s Children’s Hospital.

Cindy Morgan

Cindy Morgan has been appointed vice president for organizational development and learning. She is replacing Richard Woodrow, DSW, who is retiring after 11 years at NYU Langone but will continue to work on special projects on a consulting basis. Morgan has extensive experience in change management, talent development, organizational learning, and the business of healthcare. Previously, she was director of organizational development at the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY). Morgan earned her BA from Rutgers University and an MS in organizational development from Pepperdine University.
 

Owen O’Connor, MD, PhD

Owen O’Connor, MD, PhD, has been appointed deputy director of clinical research and cancer treatment and head of the Division of Hematological Malignancies and Medical Oncology at NYU Langone Medical Center’s Cancer Institute. Dr. O’Connor brings a lymphoma program from Columbia University Medical Center, where he developed novel treatments for a variety of hematological malignancies. After earning his MD at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and his PhD in biochemical toxicology and chemical carcinogenesis from NYU, Dr. O’Connor completed his internship and residency in medicine at The New York Hospital–Cornell University and a fellowship in medical oncology and pharmacology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Joseph Saporito

Joseph Saporito has been appointed vice president for finance. Previously, he was with KPMG, an international audit, tax, and consulting firm. As partner in charge of its northeast region healthcare advisory practice, Saporito was sought by many prominent healthcare institutions for his expertise in the healthcare industry. His experience spans financial planning, mergers and acquisitions, enterprise risk management, internal and external auditing, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement. A certified public accountant, Saporito will direct all operational, cash, and capital budgeting; analysis of financial operations; and in partnership with financial staff in the clinical units, reimbursement of third-party payments.

Jerome Shupack, MD

Jerome Shupack, MD, professor of dermatology in the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology, has been named Practitioner of the Year by the Dermatology Foundation. The award is bestowed upon a physician for a career of outstanding clinical care, with associated teaching or research, and dedication to the specialty. Dr. Shupack established one of the country’s first modern dermatology clinical trial units, which has been involved in trials for most of the major drugs used to treat dermatologic conditions.
